Apple workshop with tasting at Baldýnka

To taste about 30 carefully selected apple varieties - from the traditional ones to the newest market hits. To evaluate their looks, aroma, firmness, texture, juiciness, and flavour. To write their notes down to the sheet - like professional tasters or breeders. Like us. On the first Saturday in October 2025, the Baldýnka garden architecture centre in South Bohemia was dominated by apples. Attendees of the apple workshop tasted some of the most valued varieties and learned a bit from Michal Nigut (company Plantex) about their breeding - how new varieties come to be, and how consumers' preferences change over time. Our colleague Radek Černý enriched the program with the scientific background of breeding - how to find the tastiest and most resilient selections and how diverse apples can be.
