The Community Plant Variety Office (located in Angers, France) is an EU agency which manages the European Union system of plant variety rights, protecting the intellectual property of plant breeders. These so-called Community Plant Variety Rights can be granted to a particular variety after its thorough examination over a few years. Plants of such cultivars can then be propagated and sold only on the basis of a licence agreement concluded with the holder of the rights. As we currently have more than 40 of our varieties protected in the EU, cooperation with this office plays a central role to our activities.
On 30 November 2022, we had the honour to welcome its President Francesco Mattina and other guests at our station in Střížovice. Mr. Mattina with his company arrived in the Czech Republic on the occassion of the Czech chairmanship of the European Council. During his four days long journey, he also visited several other institutions, universities and firms.
Our colleague, researcher and breeder Dimitrij Tyč introduced the guests to our breeding efforts and presented some of the most popular varieties from our wide assortment.
It was a great pleasure for us to host the visit and also read how CPVO informed about the visit on its official LinkedIn profile:
"It is a great example showing the importance of public private partnerships where a public research institute breeds varieties that have high market value, are sold globally and generate high return on investment and more funds to be invested in R&I."
We will be happy to hear from you.
