The Botanical Garden in Liberec, Czech Republic in cooperation with our team prepared an interesting exhibition "Apples with a story" that walked the visitors through the history of apple breeding. The exhibition was held from 8 to 18 February 2024 and presented a wide assortment of varieties: from heirloom varieties, through commercial apples currently available on the market, to selected varieties originating from our breeding station - both those already well-established (like 'Topaz', 'Bonita' and Opal® - 'UEB 32642') and the hottest new selections (e.g. 'Camelot', 'Lyra' or Orange Crisp®).
The texts on information panels offered the stories of 'Lord Lambourne', 'Rubín', and 'Šampion', with which the breeding in the village of Střížovice started back in the 1960s; and of newer popular varieties like 'Topaz', 'Bonita', 'Lucy' and - above all - Opal®, the apple that was launched into the universe in 2015. Visitors could also take a glance into the secrets of contemporary breeders' efforts. Curious minds could dive even deeper by attending a presentation and tasting fruit of selected varieties.
