'TELSE': THE SCAB-RESISTANT ALTERNATIVE TO 'ELSTAR'

'Telse' is an autumn variety that combines the best of its parents: the appearance of 'Elstar' and disease resistance of 'Topaz'. Apple lovers will appreaciate its attractive looks and very good harmonic taste, reminding of 'Elstar'. A plus point of this variety is also its less vigour as compared to 'Elstar'.

Origin: 'Topaz' x 'Elstar'

Tree: habit ramified, spreading to drooping, medium vigorous (less vigorous than in 'Elstar'), produces many fruiting spurs, bears mainly in clusters on both short and long shoots

Blossom: medium early

Productivity: medium precocious, medium to high, fruit thinning required

Diseases: monogenic resistance to scab, tolerance to powdery mildew

Picking time: mid-September to end of September, together with 'Elstar'

Ready to eat: shortly after picking

Storability: in cold storage till end of December, in ULO (Ultra-Low Oxygen) atmosphere about 6 months

Fruit size/shape: size medium, shape globose, homogenous, no ribbing, stalk medium long

Colour: ground colour yellow, over colour orange-red, flushed to mottled, russet-free

Flesh and flavour: flesh creamy-coloured, medium firm, juicy, flavour harmonic, very good, sweet-sour with sugar to acid ratio 15:1
