'MAGENTA': A GOOD POLLINATOR AND A DECORATIVE TREE

Its very good pollen germinability and early, rich flowering predetermine 'Magenta' as a universal pollinizer in commercial orchards. It can also be planted as a decorative tree with nice flowers and fruits that hold on the tree until winter when they can also be suitable for birds as food. This variety is robust to multiple diseases.
Origin: 'Evereste' x 'Maypole'
Tree: tree type columnar, compact, vigour weak to medium, leaves tomentose, diploid
Disease resistance: resistant to scab, powdery mildew and fire blight not observed

Bloom: early to medium-early (with 'Evereste'), precocious and rich, lasts 10 days on average
Flowers: at balloon stage pink, petals light pink
Pollen quality: pollen germinates excellently (better than in 'Evereste'), bears less-frequent S-alleles
Productivity: precocious, high, not susceptible to alternation, fruit holds on the tree till the winter
Fruit size/shape: size small, shape globose
Colour: over colour purple red on the whole fruit skin
Flesh and flavour: flesh pinkish, fruit tastes bitter - is not edible
