'AMETYST': THE JUICY SUMMER PURPLE

Refresh yourself in the midst of the summer heat by biting into a juicy apple of 'Ametyst'. This variety is robust to diseases, has no special growing demands and may be interesting for those who seek early-ripening, slightly tart apples.

Origin: 'Nela' x 'Vista Bella'

Tree: tree habit ramified, spreading to drooping, medium vigorous, forms many fruiting spurs, diploid

Blossom: early and heavy

Productivity: precocious, heavy, fruit thinning required

Disease resistance: resistant to scab, only low susceptibility to powdery mildew

Picking time: mid-August (10 days before 'Gravensteiner')

Ready to eat: directly from the tree

Storability: in natural storage about one month

Fruit size/shape: size medium, shape globose to obloid, no ribbing, stem medium long

Colour: ground colour green-yellow, over colour purple red with bloom, 70-90% solid flush, without russet

Flesh and flavour: flesh yellowish, medium firm, texture fine, very juicy, flavour good, sweet to mildly tart, refreshing
